The Marketing Club presented its 5th annual Wharton Marketing Conference on Friday, November 7th, at the Philadelphia Park Hyatt. Marketing experts, enthusiasts, students, and professors gathered to discuss industry trends, research, and relevant topics. The "Accelerating in Change" theme focused on the strategies companies utilize to respond to market uncertainties, given economic, environmental, political, and consumer changes.
The 14th Wharton Asia Business Conference on November 8th, 2008 was a great success. This year we had more than 550 participants, including students from many schools on the east coast. The keynote and panel speakers discussed how Asia should position itself to take the global lead amidst the financial crisis. Speakers had different views as to how much Asia would be affected by the financial crisis but everyone agreed that growth in Asia is still strong and it is an exciting region of opportunities for graduating students.
It was the single most telling moment during Thursday's panel discussion. A student pointed out that GND (Grade Non Disclosure) freed him to engage in valuable extracurricular activities because it relieved him from the pressure of grade competition. As it turns out, this self-directed and self-motivated student has in fact distinguished himself by some very impressive extracurricular service. I suspect he has made excellent choices, and I don't fault him at all for making them. However...
The Wharton Sports Business Club, in conjunction with the Wharton Marketing Club, held a panel entitled "Leveraging and Maximizing Sports Marketing Partnerships in Today's Economy" at the 2008 Wharton Marketing Conference. The high profile panel, chaired by Wharton Professor Scott Rosner, included representatives from three of Philadelphia's major sports franchises, as well as executives from two major corporations involved with sports sponsorship.
Entrepreneurial assets from Eastern Pennsylvania will come together on November 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at World Café Live for the region's first ever Global Entrepreneurship Week Event, UNLEASHPHILLY (www.unleashphilly.org). The event brings together more than 50 entrepreneurial agencies, ten universities and various organizations.
