Update from the WGA Executive Board

Issue date: 4/9/07 Section: News
The past six weeks have been a whirlwind of activity for the newly elected Wharton Graduate Association (WGA) Executive Board. With a bit of time and experience under our belt, we felt it time to start sharing our progress and thoughts.

First, a few facts about the WGA. The WGA is its own independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The WGA has two core missions. First, it enables the students in more than 100 clubs and 15 conferences to do the amazing things they do by facilitating money flows and aiding in club continuity measures. Second, the WGA represents the collective student's voice in school policy matters - most directly dealing with the MBA Program Office, the Career Management Office, and the MBA Faculty Executive Committee. To learn more about the mission and structure of the WGA, please webCafé at WGA>WGA General Admin>WGA Overview.

Before spring break, the Executive Board was able to hold elections for the Divisional Vice Presidents responsible for club and conference activities (DVPs) and appoint Executive Directors responsible for policy matters (EDs). The new Executive Council , composed of 14 EDs, 10 DVPs, 4 Members-at-Large, and 4 Executive Board Members, has now convened twice and will meet twice more prior to break.

Here is a sampling of some of the activities undertaken by the Executive Council thus far:

Workplans: EDs and DVPs have developed work plans for the balance of their tenure that include specific deliverables by the spring of 2008. These plans can be found on webCafé at WGA>Executive Directors>2007-2008 ED Strategic Plans and WGA>Divisional Vice Presidents (DVPS)>DVP 07-08. Please contact respective EDs or DVPs with your comments or questions.

Leadership of Clubs and Conferences: Introductory meetings for all Presidents, all Treasurers, and all conference co-Chairs have been run by the WGA Executive Board. These meetings have sought to familiarize all new leadership with their roles, responsibilities, and resources available. If you are a new club president or treasurer and missed these sessions, please immediately contact Mimi Su or Rob Jahn to receive materials.
