What do Jon M. Huntsman (patron of our lovely Wharton home), Michael Milken (if you need an intro to him you are probably not a Wharton student), Art Collins (CEO of Medtronic), Rajat Gupta (former managing director worldwide of McKinsey), Stan O'Neal (Chairman and CEO of Merrill Lynch & Co) and Jeremy Siegel have in common? They will all be at the Wharton Economic Summit to be held this coming week at the Philadelphia Convention Center beginning on Thursday, April 12th and concluding with a gala dinner celebration on Friday the 13th. This event promises to be the largest hosted by the Wharton school, and is part of the ongoing 125th year celebrations.

The Summit is an unparalleled opportunity for Wharton students to learn from and hobnob with leaders in a broad range of fields. There really is no excuse for not attending (well, you may have class on Thursday, but I would advocate skipping even though the MBA Program Office will flip out when they read this). In addition to keynote speakers, the conference will feature a variety of panels on topics.

Here are a few panels that caught my eye:

For the Sports Nut: Leadership Lessons Learned from Sports featuring Randy Levine, the President of the Yankees as well as three Wharton graduates representing different business ventures related to sports.

For the Next Donald: Real Estate: Where it's at and Where it's Headed. All three panelists are Wharton alums, and represent real estate investment firms and Morgan Stanley's Direct Investment Group.

For the Global Citizen: Taking Western Brands to Eastern Europe and the Middle East. How to sell lipstick in Egypt? How to profitably launch a quintessential 'American' product in Poland? Listen to Wharton graduates from Liz Claiborne, Colgate-Palmolive and other firms talk about their experiences in global branding.

For Everyone: The Global Promise of Financial Innovation. Listen as Milken and Siegel hash out the future of finance.

Doc Siegel is the reason that I hold a PhD in Finance. He is the man and there is no comparison.
