Firstly, congratulations to the 'newly minted' editorial team of The Wharton Journal. It is good to see the Journal revived after the great lockout of 2007. While I like the new-found enthusiasm about the Journal, your article on the lockout sounds more like a teen-age kid whining about being grounded for behaving like an arrogant brat. I strongly disagree with the editorial view that the charter expected by WGA is a slippery road to censorship. If at all, I commend the WGA for asking the journal to behave more like an adult who defines protocol for responsible journalism. The outgoing Journal team attempted at best sophomoric humor and at worst a tabloid; with the unrealistic expectation that every time there is a transgression of editorial responsibility, the student community is supposed engage in dialogue by writing long winded articles in the Journal. As for your argument about student empowerment the WGA, as the apex student body, has vindicated the view (of the student community) that the Journal's unfettered humor is tempered by sensitivity to the diverse student body. So, contrary to your argument, WGA has acted in line with student empowerment rather than against it. It has also for once taken a stance on disciplining the monopoly enjoyed by The Wharton Journal. The discussion about computers and equipment purchased by the Journal is a moot point because they are spoils of the monopoly the Journal has enjoyed in its right as the only newspaper where recruiters can advertise. I wish that the new editorial starts its endeavor of sustaining the Journal as a modicum of strengthening the Wharton community and leaves the troubled waters behind.

Dear WJ,
As a member of both the writing staff and the cast of Follies '07, I wanted to point out that contrary to Dean Chen's assertion in last week's Journal my experience with Follies Leadership on all teams was overwhelmingly positive. This year's head writers were incredibly collaborative and fun to work with, and the cast leadership went above and beyond to make sure we had a fun and positive experience. While there are inevitably a few disgruntled individuals in any group, I think Chen's article did not accurately portray the strength of leadership and exceptional dedication to excellence in this year's Follies leadership. Congrats to all the Follies Core Directors on putting together a show that was AMAZING, JUST AMAZING.
